Simultaneous Interpretation Services: The Point To Consider!

There is no doubt that the simultaneous interpretation services present a unique set of challenges for any interpreter. But it offers numerous benefits for the listener. This service allows the attendees at international conferences to access the same information which has been provided at the same time as everyone else. Along with that it also helps to get efficient and critical rapid-response services even from medical personnel in emergency situations. But most importantly it enables the conversation to flow quite naturally from one speaker to another. This also reduces the burden on every single participant. But there are some key aspects that you need to keep in mind. In this post I will be listing five of these aspects that will surely help you practice and choose the services better. So, let’s get started.

Simultaneous Interpretation Services: The Point To Consider!

Simultaneous interpretation is slightly misleading. There will always be a small pause between the speaker and interpreter to give the interpreter time to process and render the interpretation accurately. In the case of languages like Spanish or Japanese, it may be helpful to allow this extra time to account for word order differences.

The first thing you need to keep in mind that although you are interpreting spoken language but you must never forget about the body language and other non-verbal communication. You must also have to provide the culturally- appropriate equivalents when needed. This is a very important part of any successful interpretation.
Next thing you have to keep in mind is to properly express yourself! The moment when you are interpreting a speech, you are actually the speaker to the participants. You must remember that they are listening to your voice and watching your cues as well. To become a successful interpreter you need to have the willingness to express yourself confidently in a variety of situations.
Next, you must never make up things. Even when you are in the middle of a simultaneous interpretation assignment and you just suddenly draw a blank. Don’t just panic but quickly reword in order to convey the same idea as closely as possible for you to deliver. But you must not guess at the exact language-equivalent for the sake of time.
Last and most important is that you should know your limits. This is absolutely normal for the simultaneous interpreters to take a break after 15 or 20 minutes when some other interpreter will take over. You must remember that this is one of the most incredibly demanding styles of interpretation which demands total concentration, rapid analysis of language, and quick decisions. So you must allow yourself that break and acknowledge your limits.

What Else?

Although simultaneous interpretation services is undoubtedly a demanding profession and requires a large set of diverse skills, but the rewards are equally impressive. You will get the personal satisfaction of knowing your work actually makes a real difference to your clients.
